Tips for Feeding Children – Ideas and Inspirations

Maybe you can still remember similar sentences from your childhood:

"Eat your vegetables"
"Only if you eat your vegetables, the weather will be nice"
"Eat something healthy too, only then there will be dessert"
"Before you finish your vegetables, there is nothing else"

It is not always easy to convince children to eat healthily. Children often have other things on their minds and can be quite picky. So what could one do in such a situation?

Here we have put together six inspirations and ideas for you:

Tip 1

Arouse the children's interest

Children are always curious, even about what is happening in the kitchen. In addition, children like to do everything that the grown-ups are allowed to do. We use this curiosity and let the child help in the kitchen while cooking. Children love, for example, water; so they can excellently wash the vegetables. They also love to stir, especially when you sing a self-made stirring song along. Often it is enough just to let them watch, and one could use the time to talk about the healthy ingredients. The older the children get, the more tasks they can take on. After washing fruit and vegetables, comes peeling and later even cutting (soft ingredients with a blunt knife). Weighing, stirring, seasoning, and tasting always works. And in this way, the children have already eaten something healthy while cooking.

Tip 2

Children love to nibble

If the children do not want to help with cooking, you can already put a plate of raw vegetables on the table for them during that time. When children are hungry, they also like to eat a few cucumber slices, bell pepper strips, tomatoes, carrots, kohlrabi, or other favorite raw vegetables before the main course.

Tip 3

The attentive vegetable hater

If your child currently belongs to the group of complete fruit and vegetable refusers, then you could do the following in a very simple way:

  • Pureed foods are especially suitable for hiding vegetables. Pureed carrots can be mixed unnoticed into tomato sauce. This also works with zucchini or fennel.
  • Try baking a cake once with juicy carrots or zucchinis. Fun cupcakes or brownies also work well. Pumpkin and bananas can also be magically added to rolls or other baked goods.
  • Avocados are an excellent base for all chocolate cream desserts.
  • A delicious Bolognese can be very easily prepared with a few lentils.
Tip 4

Bringing Vegetables and Fruits to Life

Have you ever heard of the kividrops Zucchini RS V-POWER Roadster or the Melon Piglet? Feel free to browse Pinterest or Instagram. There are regularly new inspirations for more joy and fun with fruits and vegetables. This way, you can playfully convince the children. A zucchini roadster is simply more fun and more enjoyable.

Tip 5

Arouse curiosity

Children are explorers. The excitement is great when children discover things for the very first time every day. Thus, the world is a big adventure land for them. An exciting way to introduce children to healthy vegetables is to create a small herb and vegetable garden together with them. This also works on the balcony. Watching together how a vegetable grows from a small seed is a pure joy. The anticipation of finally being allowed to harvest something is great. For children, this moment can be magical.

Tip 6

Variety & Calmness

Diversity and calmness lead you to your goal. Creating the best conditions for your child often means making the food offerings varied and accessible. Here a small bowl with carrots and kohlrabi, there some fruit, raisins, and a few nuts. What is within reach is usually nibbled on. Hunger may no longer be the greatest at main meals, but you have succeeded in ensuring that important vitamins and minerals have found the right path for your child's healthy development. And what is not eaten, you can calmly eat yourself.
